The 5 Left Defenders Man Utd Should Consider Signing In January..

At the point when Luke Shaw suffered a horror injury in Manchester United's Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven, alarm bells started ringing throughout their fanbase.

Although they had Marcos Rojo to call upon, it became apparent that the left-back slot was probably United's biggest weakness. With Shaw out for the long-haul, van Gaal has been thinking of bringing in another player in that position to add further depth.

Indeed, the Dutch coach admitted to reporters: “Maybe we have to buy a left-back in January." Rojo played poorly against Watford and it is now expected that United will look to buy another left-back in January. Here are 5 van Gaal and Ed Woodward should definitely consider.

1.Bruno Martins Indi  From(Porto)

United have been constantly linked with the Dutch international ever since he played well under van Gaal at the 2014 World Cup. United have already sent scouts to watch him this season

Martins Indi has a close relationship with van Gaal and looks set to leave Porto sooner rather than later. He is comfortable playing in the heart of defence or out on the left, his utility making him an even more attractive option for United.

He is physically imposing and certainly has the ability to play in the Premier League, so it wouldn't be surprising to see van Gaal put in a bid come January.

2.Jetro Willems From (PSV Eindhoven)

Willems is a promising young Dutch defender, instantly making a rumour mill target for United. Any proposed audition for United on Wednesday night will be foiled as the PSV defender is currently ruled out with a knee injury.

At 21, there is plenty of scope for him to play for United for many years but van Gaal did not select him for the World Cup squad and that is a potential deal-breaker.

Also, the fact that he is extremely injury-prone may stall any potential negotiations, regardless of his perceived potential.

3.Ashley Cole From (Roma)

This would be an excellent short-term solution for van Gaal. Cole is one of the most experienced and adept left-backs to ever play in the Premier League and would bring plenty of nous to the United back-line.

The former England international has had a miserable time at Roma and a return home would seem very attractive indeed.

However, the 34-year-old has not kicked a ball since March and his severe lack of match fitness would be very problematic in the middle of the season when games are coming thick and fast.

4.Erik Durm From (Borussia Dortmund)

Another impressive prospect with plenty to offer, the 23-year-old has struggled with injury this season but United may still be interested in striking a cut-price deal for him.

Durm is brilliant at getting forward but is disciplined at the back too and has already been capped seven times by Germany.

However, prising away one of Dortmund's most promising youngster would be an extremely difficult feat to pull off.

5.Ricardo Rodriguez From (Wolfsburg)

Recent reports suggest that the Swiss international is Van Gaal's top target and certainly seems to be the best option all things considered.

Rodriguez has impressed since breaking through in 2012 and is a regular starter for both club and country. He is excellent at set-pieces and loves getting forward much in the same manner as Shaw.

He would probably cost around £15 million which is more than manageable for United and would also provide stiff competition for Shaw upon his return. ..
